hey guys!! today I’m going to be sharing a holiday bucket list with 12 different ideas/a list of boredom busters for the christmas season. you could do these over 12 days or really however you want to – mix it up, add your own ideas, skip a day – there’s only one rule – have fun! let’s get started!! β€
on the first day of christmas – day one
- if you haven’t already, decorate the christmas tree (if you haven’t yet though, I’m seriously disappointed. CHRISTMAS IS IN LIKE A WEEK)
- if you don’t have your own christmas tree (for your room or whatever), get a little one! decorate it with some christmas lights and ornaments for a classic look or try a charlie brown tree π
- hang up some fairy lights/christmas lights in your room. they’ll make everything look magical!
my true love gave to me – day two
- make hot chocolate (if you don’t have mix, you can use cocoa powder, milk, and sugar – thank me later) and try doing different mix-ins.
- ideas: peppermint, caramel, peanut butter, mint, cinnamon, orange, maple syrup, vanilla, ginger
- make a hot chocolate bar for your family, neighbors, or friends! ask them each to bring something to put in it and a mug and make a bunch of hot chocolate. this would be such a fun way to spend an afternoon!
let it snow – day three
- make your own christmas music playlist on spotify (or wherever you listen to music). pick your favorite songs and jam it out!!
- make up your own dances to your favorite songs… record them and randomly send them to your friends π
- christmas song ideas: all I want for christmas is you, white christmas, baby it’s cold outside, I’ll be home for christmas, anything pentatonix
joy to the world – day four
- watch a christmas movie (or three)
- anything hallmark… your girl loves some hallmark christmas movies π
- ideas: elf, the grinch, home alone, a christmas story, charlie brown christmas, the polar express, the muppet christmas carol, the santa clause (there are soo many more ideas, though!)
santa baby – day five
- make a gingerbread house
- let’s be honest, who has the time to actually make the stuff for a gingerbread house? most stores have inexpensive kits, so buy a few for you and your friends or family!
- have a contest to see who can make the best gingerbread house – your mom/dad/a sibling can be the judge!
white christmas – day six
- do a secret santa with your friends
- draw names from a hat and pick a date to have the gift exchange
- you can put a five or ten dollar cost limit if you want
- exchanging gifts/guessing who got your name is super fun – you could do this with your youth group, family, or friends
I’ll be home for christmas – day seven
- buy gifts for your family/friends if you haven’t already
- shameless self promo, but I made a holiday gift guide for teen girls that has a ton of great ideas, so check it out!
- if there aren’t any gifts under your tree yet, wrap some and put them under the tree!
we wish you a merry christmas – day eight
- drive around your neighborhood/town looking at christmas lights!
- bonus points if you play your christmas playlist from day three while you drive!
all I want for christmas is you – day nine
- look up christmas random acts of kindness and do at least five
- ideas: make cookies for police officers, ring bells for salvation army, buy someone else’s coffee, leave a treat for your mailman, donate to a food pantry/shelter, invite a neighbor you might not know to christmas dinner
silent night – day ten
- make christmas cookies
- there are so many different ideas: sugar cookies, gingerbread, jan hagel, gingersnaps, snickerdoodle
- have a christmas cookie exchange with neighbors/family/friends
- make some extra and give them to a random person you see or a neighbor you don’t know very well – christmas is always a great excuse to go visit someone and get to know them!
it’s beginning to look a lot like christmas – day eleven
- go to a christmas eve candlelight service at a church near you
- help kids you know write a letter to santa (and show them this awesome santa tracker)
- wrap your own christmas gifts/help your younger siblings wrap gifts
have a holly jolly christmas – day twelve
- MERRY CHRISTMAS!
- go christmas caroling with a group of friends in your neighborhood
- deliver gifts/hot chocolate/cookies to your neighbors
- help your younger siblings pick toys to donate/make room for their new ones
I hope you’re able to use these ideas to have a great 12 days of christmas!
note: if you start tomorrow (saturday the 14th) and do one of these every day until christmas, day number twelve will be christmas! you could always skip a day or double up on days if you miss one π have fun!
